Figures from the British Dental Association suggest that around 1 in 4 people will suffer from a TMJ related problem in their lives, even though many are undiagnosed. Symptoms can include:
- persistent headaches or migraines
- pain or problems opening or closing the jaw
- clicking or popping sounds when you open or close your mouth
- Jaw clenching or nocturnal teeth grinding
If any of these apply to you, then it’s likely that a TMJ treatment can help alleviate your symptoms.
The TMJ treatment is a unique protocol developed by a dental nurse after 20 years of experience, who went on to train as a massage therapist, to address the pain and dysfunction caused by this common problem.
The treatment is designed to provide effective relief from symptoms of TMJ syndrome in six treatments, often less.
Sarah qualified as a TMJ practitioner in June 2019, building on her existing massage training to offer a range of massage and myofascial techniques that are effective at treating problems within the TMJ area. She is currently completing the more advanced TMJ training with a view to becoming a fully accredited therapist at the start of 2020.
As the daughter of one of the leading maxillo-facial surgeons in Scotland, and a former fixed-appliance wearer herself, she is aware of the many ways in which orthodontic and dental treatment can impact on the TMJ region and is well placed to offer support and treatment to help with pain, lack of movement or other difficult symptoms.
